On June 17th Kanyon Sayers-Roods, Co-Founder of Kanyon Konsulting, will bring her unique perspective to the Heirs To Our Oceans S.E.A.L. — Summit for Empowerment Action & Leadership. At this 2-week Summit, seasoned and budding youth leaders come together to Learn about human impact on our oceans and waterways through instruction and workshops prepared and led by Heirs on the subjects of coral, deep sea habitat, unsustainable fishing practices, plastic pollution, land-sea pollution, climate change and its effects on marginalized communities
Thoughtfully interwoven Indigenous content and approaches must be informed by an understanding of Indigenous epistemologies (how knowledge can be known) and pedagogies, (how knowledge can be taught). While there is much diversity among Indigenous Peoples, and therefore among Indigenous ways of knowing, teaching, or learning,
“There have always been indigenous peoples in the spaces we call home, and there always will be! What does it mean to live in a post-colonial world? What did it take for us to get here? And how can we be accountable to our part in history?”
Just as Heirs To Our Oceans is inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders, Kanyon Konsulting wants to inspire ongoing action and relationship. Acknowledgment by itself is a small gesture. It becomes meaningful when coupled with authentic relationship and informed action
We would like to sincerely thank the Seals – Heirs to Ocean Summit. for their continued authentic relationship with the indigenous peoples of the Ohlone Territory
