Kanyon Konsulting’s mission is to share the indigenous perspectives of all native peoples of the bay area & across the globe. Starting with the concept of land acknowledgment, our goal is to broaden the conversation to include the indigenous perspective into the fabric of contemporary America.

Our work with the Global Climate Action Summit, The Waldorf School, San Francisco State University’s Native American Studies Program, The Cultural Conservancy, World Art’s West and The DeYoung Museum has resulted in the increased awareness around truth in history of the first peoples of the Bay Area.

Sadly, we are in California and out of the approximately 200 plus groups/languages that are indigenous to California, just over 110 are federally recognized tribes. The remaining “unrecognized” tribes are still seeking federal recognition. Many natives residing in Californians still aren’t privy to that information, let alone those non-Indigenous to the territory. Our educational curriculum needs to undergo a few revisions, to help Californians and Tourists alike to witness the beauty and history of what it means to be here on, this land.

The Indigenous peoples, of what is now known as California, have been steward’s of the land for over 15,000 years! Yet only a couple hundred of these years is documented by Western Society? We are now seeing the practices of the natives of this land rebranded as “permaculture” and “biodiversity”. These are practices that have been part of the fabric of life that has tied the people to this land for centuries. The continued denial of the wisdom and environmental insight that indigenous people carry and know is a narrative that needs to change. As a Native woman, I understand how these terms come about but honestly, we need to give credit where credit is due. To “Honor Truth in History” is not only a passion that has been handed down to me from my elders but also how I walk moving forward & how I want to honor the generations to come.

Honor the past, to shape the future!
