Still a messy recommendation list – at least its something
This Indigenous Book Recommendations list emerged from Kanyon’s extensive and ongoing collaboration with Indigenous educators, Native American Studies professors, archaeologists, and anthropology scholars. Now in its evolving 2.0 version, this resource remains in draft form as a living document. It includes a developing beta legend to categorize topics, regions, and perspectives represented in the literature. Because many texts—especially older publications—were written through colonial frameworks, the list provides contextual labeling to help readers navigate works that contain valuable information yet reflect limited or biased viewpoints. The goal is to support informed, culturally aware engagement with both Indigenous-authored materials and historically significant sources.
